29 August 2011 Elite Warfare Bowling Ball Bowling Equipment

Elite introduces the new Warfare. In the bowling world, this is a big deal anytime a new ball comes out. We need the best weapons to hone our individual games. If you want a good skid/flip ball, you should look at this ball. What does that mean?  Skid/flip refers to the ball skidding down the lane to a point and then grabbing or flipping into the pocket. If you are a down and in player, meaning you really prefer to throw the ball straight and have it hook to the pocket without swinging the ball a lot of boards, this could be your ball. This is what Elite says about the Warfare. “This high performance bowling ball features the FX95+ cover which is extremely clean through the front part of the lane. The Hurricane core only enhances this reaction. The Warfare is ideal for medium to heavy oil conditions. If a little straighter is what you need just add polish. When the lanes are on the oily side rough up the surface the stock 1200 polish as this is best used on medium conditions.” A versatile ball that can be adapted to many lane conditions.

22 August 2011 Winning is not everything but …. Bowling Experiences

Summer bowling leagues can be a lot of fun. They also serve to refine your game and give you a chance to work on different aspects of your game and experiment with your equipment. Averages do not count toward your book average but it is still competition. When you are lucky enough to be on top of a league, any league going into the last week of the season, all you want is fair competition. When you show up for the last night and you realize the 2nd place team has brought in a ringer and that the league rules do not prohibit doing so, all of the wind starts to go out of your sails. This is poor sportsmanship and should not ever be allowed. All you need to do is win one game to win the league. Everything goes south and the ringers win the night and you end up in a tie. According to league rules, there will be a one game roll off in the event of a tie, right then. You change lanes and all of a sudden your game comes back, you roll six strikes in a row and your team mates are having a good game as well. Your team builds a 150 pin lead in the middle of the game and the ringers give up!!! You win!! If you have never been through this, the winning feeling is incredible. It is not the money or prizes you win for winning the league, it is the sense of accomplishment. If you have never won anything before, the feeling is like no other. Bowlers who are used to winning may think it is no big deal. It is only a summer league for heaven sake. But, if you have never been there before, the poor sportsmanship of the other team really affects your frame of mind and to overcome that, is great experience. This experience will allow you to relax in similar situations. You now know you can do it!! Makes you really look forward to the fall/winter league competition and maybe even a few tournaments. Keep bowling—don’t stop now!!! Bowling under pressure when there is something on the line is where the big payoffs are. Good luck and high scores!!

15 August 2011 How To Get Ready For A Bowling Tournament Tournament Bowling

There are recreational bowlers who love to bowl in tournaments. They will use practice time and league bowling situations to prepare for the next tournament. There are differences between league and tournament bowling. The bowler may need different equipment. Tournament conditions usually are quite different from the weekly league conditions. Conditions will probably be much oilier. Wet back ends are diabolical. Your equipment should work for the conditions or at least you should be aware of the conditions to change marks and shoot spares. To begin with, the player needs to know the local rules of the event they are bowling in. For example, is there a time limit to bowl the games scheduled? How many re-racks can you have? There are many such questions. Corner Bowling Shop recommends that you show up to the event center at least an hour early, acclimate to the conditions and learn all you can about the event. Ask questions. After you have done this, it is time for you to mentally prepare to bowl. Do not expect any outcome or score. FOCUS on what you are doing. Do not fixate on the other competitors. Assume they are strong and concentrate on your own game. Clear your head and make one good shot at a time. Pay attention to your delivery, what your ball does on each shot and make the necessary adjustments. Remember, you cannot win a tournament on the first ball or frame. You can loose it. Be patient. Here are some basic ideas to bowl well in tournament conditions:

  1. Focus on your target or mark throughout your approach and delivery.
  2. Maintain good posture and demeanor. Maintain your balance in your approach.
  3. Be aware of the adrenaline. Control your steps and timing. It is easy to get out of synch just from the adrenaline pumping. Fast steps cause hurried and inaccurate deliveries.
  4. Ball swing should be free and without tension in the arm. Maintain proper tempo.
  5. Hold your balance at the foul line until the delivery is complete. Have good follow through.
  6. RELAX. Do what got you there. Roll the ball the same as in practice or league. HAVE FUN!! That is the point.

08 August 2011 How should the ball fit? Bowling Tips and Advice

New bowling equipment can make bowling a lot more fun. All of the technology in the world cannot help anyone if it does not fit right. The more we bowl the more we hear people say that their ball does not fit right, they need to tape the thumb hole or I can’t get enough lift on my ball. Some people are proud of the blisters, callouses and abraisions the fingers get as we try to master the bowling ball. This brings us to the point, How should a bowling ball fit? If you ask 10 different pro shop owners that drill bowling balls, they will give you 10 different  answers. Corner Bowling Shop recommends you get a driller to watch you bowl and measure your hand. Since there is no perfect template to drill a bowling ball, trusting your professional is paramount. Professional bowlers have a basic feel they like in their ball but they will tweak pitches and spans trying to find an edge for that particular bowling ball or condition. When discussing your ball fit with your driller, there are some things to look for. First, the ball should feel comfortable in your hand. No pain felt in the hand, fingers or thumb. The ball should stay on your thumb when hanging at your side. The weight of the ball alone should not pull the ball off your thumb, with a straight wrist and relaxed hand. The next installment of tips and advice will look into the thumb hole fit more extensively.

01 August 2011 Brunswick Damage Bowling Ball Equipment Reviews

If you are a player looking for a ball to shoot down and in on normal league conditions and don’t want to swing the ball 20 – 30 boards after the lanes break down, give this ball a serious look.

With its high gloss finish, the Damage will provide excellent length with a quick response to friction at the breakpoint.
With Brunswick’s new addition to the Advanced Performance line we were excited to see what ball motion the Damage would bring to the table. This series of balls continues to produce good ball motions across many conditions. The Damage was no different and did not disappoint us when we tested it.

On the fresh you could tell the ball was a little out of it element but it still created enough friction to get into a good roll and still give us plenty of movement on the back part of the lane. If the cover was hit with a 2000 grit pad the motion would have suited the condition much better.

As we saw the lane break down the Damage came to life and by the end of the night it was moving off the break point as strong as any other ball in this performance line. The great thing about the Damage is how it looked going down the lane. This is sometimes as important as reaction because it lets you see what the ball is doing. With it’s sharp three color pearl the Damage was great to watch as it went to the pin deck.

There was no lack of energy by the pins with this ball either. The ball continued off the break point very strong and went through the pin deck with authority every time.

The Damage is a great reacting and great looking addition to Brunswick’s line up.
